Natural/Applied Sciences/Liberal Arts & Humanities

Students from all over the world come to the Indian shores for study of Natural and Applies Sciences, Liberal Arts and Humanities, the reason- India has a wealth of resources, from infrastructure to faculty. A variety of Programmes are available in traditional liberal arts and humanities. There are 162 traditional universities and more than 7,494 colleges offering degree in Science/ Arts / Commerce. Undergraduate Programmes are offered in more than 150 disciplines and post graduate in 50 more than 50 specialisations.

There are 162 traditional universities and more than 7,494 colleges offering degree in Science/Arts / Commerce. Colleges/university departments offer a wide range of programmes in conventional science disciplines as well as new and emerging areas of science and technology. Undergraduate programmes are offered in more than 150 disciplines and postgraduate programmes are offered in more than 50 specialisations. A variety of programmes are available in traditional liberal arts / humanities.

Undergraduate programmes
are offered in more than 300 disciplines and postgraduate programmes in more than 150
specialisations. The colleges offering undergraduate or postgraduate courses in science stream or arts / humanities stream are either constituent colleges of the university / university departments or affiliated colleges. Universities offer affiliation to colleges only on meeting prescribed norms/standards and are in turn regulated by the statutory body, University Grants Commission.

Securing Admission
  • Candidates can apply for admission to Ed.CIL or directly to University/College for these courses according to the specific institute’s rules and regulations.
  • Candidates for postgraduate courses are required to appear for an All-India Biotechnology Entrance Test admission to M.Sc./M.Sc.(Agri.)/M.V.Sc.(Animal) Biotech/M.Tech. Biotechnology, which is conducted by the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. The combined entrance exam is applicable for admission to 20 universities/institutes in various parts of the country.
  • In most law institutes/universities, selection is on the basis of an entrance test. Admission to NLSIU is through an all-India admission test held usually on the first Sunday in May.

Universities of Excellence
In order to meet the challenges in education in global society and to introduce the concept of
excellence and granting the status of universities with potential for excellence, the overnment
has decided to identify educational institutions, which have the potential to be declared as universities of excellence. At present, there are 17 universities which have been declared by
UGC as universities with potential for excellence. To name some
