With 36 universities and 1195 colleges offering undergraduate and postgraduate engineering courses in various branches, India is rightly referred as a Mecca for finding engineers suited to cutting edge technology jobs.
Over 200,000 students take admission in Indian engineering institutes and colleges. All the engineering colleges / institutions in India are recognised and regulated by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE).
All engineering educational institutes and universities are affiliated to All India Council for Technical Education AICTE. All engineering colleges or institutes do offer graduate (BE or BTech) and post graduate( M E or M Tech). There are private and Government colleges available in plenty under each State of India and under almost all universities. We have a full list of State wise Universities or colleges offering degree and PG in professional courses such as medical, dental and engineering fields.
In short India has some of the top engineering and medical institutions in the world that offer cheapest, affordable but high quality medical, dental and engineering courses.
Technical Education plays a vital
role in human resource development of the country by creating
skilled manpower, enhancing industrial productivity and
improving the quality of life. Technical Education covers
courses and programmes in engineering, technology, management,
architecture, town planning, pharmacy and applied arts & crafts,
hotel management and catering technology.
The technical education system in the
country can be broadly classified into three categories – Central
Government funded institutions, State Government/State-funded institutions
& Self-financed institutions. The 65 Centrally funded institution of

World Bank.
(ii) Indian National Digital Library for Science & Technology (INDEST).
There is one Public Sector Undertaking,
namely, Educational Consultants India Ltd. (Ed.CIL) under the
Ministry. There are also Apex Councils, namely the All India Council
for Technical Education (AICTE) and Council of Architecture (COA).

Securing Admission
- Admission to undergraduate courses at IITs is based on the merit obtained in a national entrance test, JEE (Joint Entrance Examination). An All-India ngineering/Pharmacy/Architecture Entrance Examination (AIEEE) is conducted by CBSE, Department of Secondary and Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, for admission to degree-level courses in Engineering, Pharmacy and Architecture in central universities, NITs, deemed universities and institutions in the States/UTs other than those covered by JEE/State Level Entrance Examination.
- NRIs can appear in these entrance tests but foreign passport holders are not eligible to take these tests.
- Admissions of foreign nationals/PIOs/NRIs are facilitated under the DASA scheme to NITs and other centrally-funded technical institutions, except IITs wherein 15 per cent of seats have been reserved in premier technical institutions for Indian diaspora.
- For postgraduation, institutions like the IITs require GATE score for admission. The GATE examination is conducted by IIT annually at different centres in India. The score should not be older than two years as on the last date for receiving applications.
- Self-financing international students can apply to Ed.CIL or directly to the private institutes.
